RIC 1: Prevention – Surveillance Methodologies

sin título-32
This Research and Innovation Case (RIC) addresses the urgent challenge of improving the efficiency of surveillance measures to prevent and control the alarming rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in hospitals and other environments in Ukraine.

The scientific objective of this RIC is to develop a comprehensive framework of best practices, methodological approaches, targets, and essential indicators for effective AMR surveillance, applicable both at hospital level and at the scale of the National Action Plan (NAP).

Key tasks include conducting Point-Prevalence Studies (PPS) in hospitals, collecting data on antimicrobial susceptibility and antibiotic consumption, and developing reporting mechanisms and educational modules to support implementation and capacity building.

The main output of this work will be a handbook on surveillance methodologies tailored to the Ukrainian context. The research is led by National Medicines Institute (NMI), with key contributions from Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) and Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetic (IMBG), and is designed to support decision-making and implementation by relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, the Centre for Public Health, and hospital management.
